In a world captivated by the pursuit of personal ambitions and self-expression, the sacred often fades into the background. Yet, the Bible continually reminds us of the importance of respecting what God has ordained—His creation, commandments, appointed leaders, and sacred institutions. Living with reverence toward these divine elements is not only an act of obedience but a profound reflection of our love for the Creator. This blog delves deeper into why respecting what God has ordained is essential for every believer and how it impacts our lives and our relationship with Him.

1. God’s Sovereignty Over Creation: A Reminder of His Glory

“By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of His mouth all their host.” — Psalm 33:6

The magnificence of creation serves as a constant reminder of God’s sovereignty. From the vastness of the heavens to the intricacies of a single flower, all of creation testifies to His greatness. God declared His creation “very good” (Genesis 1:31), and He entrusted humanity with the responsibility to steward it with care.

Yet, how often do we take this responsibility lightly? Pollution, exploitation of natural resources, and disregard for the environment reflect a lack of respect for what God has so lovingly crafted. As stewards of the earth, we are called not just to admire creation but to protect and nurture it. Planting trees, conserving resources, and living sustainably are not merely environmental acts—they are acts of worship and respect toward the Creator.

Challenge: Take time to marvel at God’s handiwork. A sunrise, the sound of birds, or the beauty of a garden—all these reflect His glory. Ask yourself: Am I treating creation with the respect it deserves?

2. Respecting God’s Commandments: A Path to Righteousness

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” — Psalm 119:105

God’s commandments are not arbitrary rules; they are His loving instructions for living a fulfilling and righteous life. The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1–17) outline principles that guide us to honour God, respect others, and live in integrity. These commandments are not relics of the past; they are as relevant today as they were when given to Moses.

Disregarding God’s commandments is akin to rejecting His authority in our lives. Jesus reinforced the importance of these principles, saying, “If you love me, keep my commandments” (John 14:15). Respecting His Word is a testament to our love and commitment to Him.

However, obedience is not always easy. The temptations of the world often lure us away from His path. This is why immersing ourselves in Scripture, prayer, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit is essential. By respecting His commandments, we not only honour God but also invite His blessings into our lives.

Reflection: How do you approach God’s Word? Is it a priority in your life, or has it taken a back seat to worldly pursuits? Commit to daily Scripture reading and let His Word guide your steps.

3. Honoring Leaders and Authorities: Trusting God’s Order

“Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established. The authorities that exist have been established by God.” — Romans 13:1

God, in His wisdom, has established leaders and authorities to bring order to society. This includes spiritual leaders, government officials, and community elders. While human leaders are fallible, respecting their positions reflects our trust in God’s divine order.

The Bible provides numerous examples of individuals who honoured authority despite challenges. Consider Daniel, who served under pagan kings with integrity and respect while remaining faithful to God. His attitude earned him favour and allowed God’s power to shine through him (Daniel 6).

Respect does not mean blind obedience, especially when human commands conflict with God’s laws (Acts 5:29). However, even in disagreement, we are called to respond with grace, humility, and prayer for those in authority.

Action Step: Pray for your leaders, whether in the church, workplace, or government. Ask God to guide them in wisdom and righteousness.

4. Revering the Church and Sacred Institutions

“Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you?” 1 Corinthians 3:16

The Church is the body of Christ, a sacred institution established to bring light to the world. Respecting the Church goes beyond attending services; it involves supporting its mission, contributing to its ministries, and nurturing fellowship among believers.

Marriage, too, is a sacred institution ordained by God. Genesis 2:24 highlights the union of man and woman as a reflection of God’s covenant love. When we dishonour marriage—through infidelity, neglect, or trivialisation—we undermine God’s design for relationships.

Practical Tip: Commit to being an active participant in your church. Volunteer, tithe, and support its mission wholeheartedly. In your relationships, honour God by upholding the sanctity of marriage and family.

5. Living a Life of Reverence: A Daily Commitment

“He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” — Micah 6:8

Respecting what God has ordained is not a one-time act; it is a daily choice. It requires humility, a teachable spirit, and a heart surrendered to God’s will. This lifestyle of reverence not only pleases God but also sets an example for others, drawing them closer to Him.

When we fail to honour what God has ordained, we create barriers between ourselves and His blessings. However, when we live in alignment with His divine order, we open the door to peace, joy, and fulfilment.

A Call to Honor God’s Plan

As we reflect on these principles, let us commit to honouring all that God has ordained. Here are a few questions to guide your journey:

May we, as believers, live in a way that testifies to God’s sovereignty and love. Let our respect for what He has ordained be a beacon that draws others to His kingdom.

Prayer:
Heavenly Father, thank You for the beauty of Your creation, the wisdom of Your commandments, and the order You have established in our lives. Help us to honour and respect all that You have ordained, reflecting Your glory in all we do. Teach us to walk humbly, love deeply, and serve faithfully. May our lives bring honour to Your name and inspire others to follow You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Let us live in reverence to the One who ordained all things and trust in His perfect plan for our lives.
